CRM Data Quality & Governance Framework
A growing organization relying on Salesforce for sales and customer management was experiencing escalating data quality issues. As the database grew, duplicates multiplied, records were incomplete, and reporting became unreliable — threatening both operational efficiency and strategic decision-making.
There was no data governance framework in place. Duplicate accounts and contacts were widespread, required fields were often left empty, and there were no validation rules to enforce data standards. Reports and dashboards produced inconsistent results, eroding management's trust in the CRM as a source of truth. Teams spent significant time manually cleaning data rather than focusing on high-value activities.
I conducted a comprehensive data quality audit to identify the most impactful issues and their root causes. Based on this analysis, I designed and implemented a governance framework that included validation rules for critical fields, duplicate detection and merge processes, standardized data entry guidelines, and a monitoring dashboard to track data quality KPIs over time. I also established a recurring governance review process to ensure standards were maintained as the organization evolved.
Duplicate records were reduced significantly within the first two months. Data completeness across critical fields improved measurably, leading to more reliable reports and dashboards. Management regained confidence in CRM-based reporting for strategic decisions. The governance framework created a sustainable, self-reinforcing system that continued to improve data quality beyond the initial engagement.
Data quality is not a one-time cleanup project — it is an ongoing discipline that requires governance, automation, and cultural buy-in. The most effective approach combines technical controls (validation rules, duplicate management) with human processes (training, accountability, regular reviews). Building dashboards that make data quality visible to stakeholders is key to maintaining momentum.
This project proved that data governance is a strategic investment, not an operational cost. Clean, reliable data is the foundation upon which every CRM initiative — from automation to AI — must be built.
